A Sunset Bike Ride on Plum Island
PLACE = Plum Island, MA
DATE = July 15, 2004
TIME = Sunset
Dad and I decided to take a wonderful bike ride on Plum Island at sunset.
It had been cloudy and misty all day, but Dad called me at work and asked me if I wanted to go for a bike ride after work. It was raining in Newbury at the time, but we both decided to try for a bike ride an hour later. Perhaps the skies would clear.
As I was driving home from work, the skies began to clear. Could it be true? Would it actually clear for our bike ride? As I drove into the driveway the clouds slightly parted and the sun peeked through...so off we went on our bike ride.
We headed for the North End of Plum Island first. We discovered a couple of people fishing when we arrived. The beach was absolutely beautiful. It was glowing with the setting sun.
At the end of the pier was a couple of fishing boats. Dad had a chat with a local fisherman and discovered that it only cost $31 to go out on the boat for 1/2 day of fishing. Of course I wouldn't be going out on a fishing boat since I get sea-sick!
There I am with my brand new bike. Don't I look classy with my helmet?
We then left the northern end of the Island and headed for the refuge on the southern end of the island (about 5 miles away). We stopped by the Plum Island Lighthouse on the way. It is still a functioning lighthouse, although automated now.
We rode out to the refuge and as we were heading back home, an unbelievable sunset greated our eyes. The view was enough to take your breath away. There were all kinds of colors and hues in the sky.
Not a bad way to end the day that had started out so dreary!
