The origin of the name Weare is English and the Coat of Arms contains Silver shield, on a green bend between six red crosses, three gold crosiers. The Crest is A half lion holding a cross. The family motto is Fuimus.

First found in Devon where they were anciently seated. Traditionally, this family derive from an ancient branch of the Giffards of Devon and Somerset and are not related to the Weir of Vere families in any way.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: J.C. Wear who settled in San Francisco Cal. in 1850; Robert Wear settled in New England in 1718; William W. Wear settled in Philadelphia Pa. in 1866.
